Photographic hides at Mashatu

Elephant-proof hide at the waterhole

It was a first for photography in southern Africa when C4 Images  and Safaris secured an exclusive concession to provide dedicated photographic hides at Mashatu Game Reserve. The hides provide a perfect vantage point from which both novice and professional photographers can safely photograph animals and birds from ground level, and often close range.

Shem Compion, co-founder of C4 Images and Safaris, shared this amazing footage of the elephant-proof ground level hide based at a waterhole, shot by one of the guests on a recent photographic safari:

There are four main types of hides at Mashatu:

1. An elephant-proof ground level hide based at a waterhole, where from both novice and professional photographers can photograph animals and elephants from ground level.
2. Semi-permanent hides that are easy to move about to the various drying waterholes in the riverbeds that characterise Mashatu.
3. An infinity bird hide from which seed-eating birds could be photographed at eye-level
4. A hide based at the white-fronted bee-eater colony.

Hi I am looking at booking some time at your tent camp in July this year. I love the idea of the photographic hides – are these something I pay extra to use or are they included in the 2 trips a day package you receive with your accommodation?
